Math: Abbott and Costello Style

Posted by tekkieteacher on September 17, 2007

I admit it. Math was never my strongest subject. I have an inestimable amount of respect for those of you who have mastered the foreign language that is Math. With that in mind, here is a fun video that both Math experts and the Math challenged should enjoy.

This video is hilarious…and I’ve seen similar math logic in some of my students. Their ‘personal logic’ is so deeply rooted that attempts to teach the real process in my science class result in quizzical “you’re nuts!” looks from students. I can only imagine what math teachers might be able to share about it.

This was funny. I’m just trying to win a thumb drive, but I’m glad I stopped to watch this. (Now, what would really be a good thinking question for my students… “what is he doing wrong?” or “what is wrong with his logic?”)

I think this one is a hoot, too. Costello is just so darn sure he’s right, and he explains himself in such a logical manner. I think videos like this (and humor in general) can really “break the ice” with our students.
