Technology and Teaching, Together
When I was teaching social studies, I would sometimes have my students do political cartoons relating to the current subject. It was a great way to incorporate a student’s creativity with the topic. And they were a lot more fun to grade than essays!
With that in mind, I discovered this nice little online tool recently — ToonDoo.com. Using ToonDoo, students can create cartoons online. I’m still playing with it and learning all the features, but it looks pretty cool.
It looks really good–I would like to use it can they be printed? Is there another program that can?

Hi,
I write from ToonDoo, the site you have spoken kind and appreciative words about.
Thanks for liking the site, and writing about it.
Yes, you can indeed print them. All you need to do is save the image on your local computer, and go about printing it like you would do to any other image on screen.
The quality might not be all that good though, and might be useful only for small paper printouts. We are planning a high-resolution version of the same, that can even be printed on mugs, teeshirts, and even made into posters, and plan to charge a small fee for the high-res version. Hope that will suit your requirements better.
Thanks again.

Terry,
I’m a little late in reading some of my e-mails, but I always enjoy your Friday posts. I really liked ToonDoo, especially in regards to the newspaper. Do you know if we could publish a cartoon that one of my staff members creates using Toondoo? It would be original material, and I don’t mind including a blurb stating that it was created using their program, but I don’t want to get into copyright issues.
Any thoughts? Thanks,
Evynn
Evynn,
Rajendran from ToonDoo says it’s ok (see his comment above), although I’m sure they’d appreciate a link in your publication to the site.
